SonicSelves Rebrand Story: Why Our DnB Duo Came Back Stronger

After a much-needed hiatus and rebrand, SonicSelves (formerly D 0 M – E S) are back online! But what led to this change? In this blog, we’re sharing the full SonicSelves rebrand story. From the challenges of a name that no one could find to the creative rebirth that’s bringing our music to more ears than ever.

• What’s with the radio silence?
• And seriously, what the hell happened to D 0 M – E S?!

Why We Rebranded: The SonicSelves Rebrand Story

Look, we liked our old name. It had character. But trying to find “D 0 M – E S” on a search engine? Absolute nightmare. Even our closest mates who wanted to stream our stuff couldn’t find us without going on a treasure hunt. And while we’re all about making music for the love of it, let’s be real: what’s the point if no one can even hear it?

So, we hit the brainstorming table. We wanted something that captured us: our love for sound, our goofy selves, and the journey we’re on. Then it clicked…
Sonic… Selves… SonicSelves. Surely that name was taken? Nope. And just like that, our fate was sealed.

The Reboot (aka: Why This Took Forever)

Rebranding sounds exciting until you’re neck-deep in platform changes and streaming headaches. I (Doran) knew what was coming, having been through it before. So we got to work: remastering our tracks, re-releasing our flagship song Angelic (shoutout to our BBC Radio feature!), and then… well…

Life happened.

Life Shit (Because We’re Human)

Here’s the deal: we’re hobbyists. We love making music, but we’ve got real-life stuff to juggle too. Elliot was stuck in a tough job situation for a good chunk of early 2025, and I was knee-deep in life planning. Add a couple of side projects to the mix, and suddenly SonicSelves was… well… dead in the water.

But not for long. We weren’t about to let that be the end of our story.

How Changing Our Name Brought New Energy

This whole process taught us a lot. About music, social media, and even ourselves. We realized that if we wanted people to hear our stuff without feeling like we were forcing it, we had to be smarter. So we got organized.

I started digging through hours of old videos and unreleased content that we had just… forgotten about. And I realized something big: this isn’t a sprint. It’s a slow jog. You can mix for 10 hours straight, but if you don’t pace yourself with releases, it’s all for nothing.

And yeah, as much as we hate the M-word (marketing, ugh), the truth is… if you want people to hear your music, you gotta play the game at least a little. Because at the end of the day, we’re doing this to share our emotions, and what’s the point if no one feels them?

It’s AlliiIiive!

Fast forward to now, and guess what? We’re back!
We’ve settled into a more realistic and (dare we say) fun schedule of posting across platforms. And it’s actually working!

  • Instagram? Still a slog, but we’re getting there.
  • YouTube? Hit the ground running.
  • TikTok? Honestly, that place is wild. Our new reels are smashing our previous records.

And while it’s not just about the numbers, seeing things click after all this time feels… damn good.

Elliot’s got that seal of approval. Back in the mix and loving it!

Rebuilding SonicSelves: What We Learned

The biggest shift? We don’t force it anymore.

We’re sticking to a loose schedule, but we’re not making content just for the platforms. The stuff we share: hours of mixing, little compositions, fun behind-the-scenes bits, is all stuff we’d be doing anyway. Now, we just let people in on the madness.

And you know what? It’s actually fun this way. We’re back to doing what we love, being our authentic, slightly chaotic, best-buddy selves… and it feels right.

So yeah, SonicSelves is back. And this time? We’re here to stay.

Catch you in the mix.
